Underwriter, Professional Lines

About the role

We’re looking for an Underwriter based in London reporting directly to the Joint head of Professional Lines. The role involves underwriting and development of a diverse global portfolio of professional lines focused on Professional Indemnity.

Key responsibilities

• Assess renewal and new business risks and opportunities, applying underwriting guidelines and pricing models to optimise the portfolio.
• Represent the company in client market presentations, one‑to‑one client meetings, broker meetings, industry events and conferences.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to maximise new business and renewal opportunities.
• Collaborate with the claims and pricing departments to deliver viable products for clients.
• Manage delegated authorities, undertake binder referrals and provide timely data for reporting and underwriting control meetings.
• Support junior underwriters through referrals and technical guidance.
• Contribute to the development and execution of the Underwriting Strategy.
• Liaise with Finance, Credit Control and Operations to prepare and review data for Lloyd’s and other regulatory returns.

Required profile

• Proven experience in professional lines underwriting with strong technical underwriting and risk assessment knowledge.
• Strong trading and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate rationale to brokers and clients.
• Ability to build, develop and maintain broker and client relationships and expand your network.
• Proactive approach, strong work ethic and customer‑focused attitude.
• Proven ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise efficiently.
• Drive and ambition to develop and progress.
