Underwriting Assistant – Commercial Insurance

About the role

We are looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our commercial insurance team in the City of London. You will receive fast‑track training to progress from supporting existing business to writing new business, with the aim of becoming a fully qualified Underwriter.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, professional support to brokers for existing business and mid‑term adjustments.
• Assist in pricing, policy term setting and premium calculation within authorised limits.
• Identify hazards and coverage issues that affect risk acceptance and pricing.
• Contribute to loss‑ratio control by adhering to underwriting guidelines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and internal partners.
• Support sales campaigns and wider team initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in property and liability underwriting for SME commercial packages.
• Demonstrated ability to work to service level agreements and meet broker expectations.
• Understanding of claims impact and risk management on underwriting decisions.
• Commitment to company values, diversity and regulatory compliance.
