Underwriting Assistant

About the role

AXA XL is looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join its London Whole‑sale Property Underwriting team. The role provides a solid entry point for candidates who want to start or progress a career in insurance underwriting, offering support to underwriters and exposure to the full policy lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Enter risk details into underwriting systems and maintain accurate client folders.
• Liaise with underwriters to interpret data and respond to queries.
• Collaborate with the ESS team in India, Credit Control and other support functions to resolve daily issues and ensure compliance.
• Develop and maintain broker relationships, support renewal processes, pricing, claims and governance activities.
• Undertake ad‑hoc projects and other duties as required.

Required profile

• Minimum A‑level education or equivalent business experience.
• Strong analytical mindset with a rational approach to complex data.
• Responsible, proactive and quick to learn new technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and formulas.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams.
• Experience with system data entry processes.
