Underwriting Governance & Performance Lead

About the role

This position is responsible for strengthening underwriting oversight, governance controls and portfolio performance across a growing reinsurance platform. Working closely with senior underwriting leadership, the role bridges underwriting, risk, compliance, actuarial, finance, operations and management information teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain underwriting governance frameworks, controls and procedures.
• Ensure consistent application of underwriting authorities, referrals, review processes and documentation standards.
• Review adherence to appetite, pricing discipline and governance requirements with underwriting teams.
• Coordinate file reviews, peer reviews and post‑bind quality assurance activities.
• Identify gaps or inconsistencies and implement practical improvements.
• Support business planning, portfolio performance monitoring and underwriting review processes.
• Produce clear reporting and insights for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
• Act as the primary contact for underwriting governance queries and internal requirements.
• Partner with risk, compliance, audit, actuarial, finance, operations and MI teams to embed governance into daily work.
• Assist with rollout of new underwriting tools, templates, process enhancements and appetite changes.

Required profile

• Experience in insurance, reinsurance or the London Market.
• Background in underwriting governance, oversight, risk, controls, quality assurance, audit or performance management.
• Good understanding of underwriting processes, authority controls, referrals, risk appetite and governance frameworks.
• Experience working in a regulated environment where documentation and process discipline are critical.
