Unqualified Teaching Assistant – SEN Alternative Provision (Blackley)

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Unqualified Teaching Assistant to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in a specialist alternative provision in Blackley, Manchester. The role starts in September 2026 and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference for pupils with complex needs.
Key responsibilities
- Assist teachers and therapists in delivering personalised learning programmes.
- Promote independence and support pupils' social, emotional and personal development.
- Provide one‑to‑one and group support for children with autism, severe learning difficulties, SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and physical/medical requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or vulnerable adults with SEND, challenging behaviour or complex needs.
- Transferable skills from care, youth work, coaching, residential or mental‑health support roles.
- Patient, resilient, adaptable and able to maintain professional boundaries.
- Willingness to hold an Enhanced DBS (or apply for one).
Required skills
- Positive behaviour support strategies (desirable).
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures (desirable).
- Familiarity with communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS or visual supports (desirable).
- Training in de‑escalation, manual handling or Team Teach (desirable).
