Utility Consulting Engineer – Design Team

About the role

We are seeking a Utility Consulting Engineer to join the Mechanical, Electrical and Technology team within Kier Design’s Design department in Gerrards Cross. The role involves advising developers and businesses on electricity, gas, water and telecom utilities, from feasibility through to delivery, helping them meet cost, compliance and net‑zero objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies, liaise with utility suppliers and manage utility connection projects (water, gas, electricity, telecom) from concept to completion.
• Prepare due‑diligence reports, design concepts and strategic advice on utility infrastructure for new developments or existing sites.
• Act as the primary contact with utility providers, regulatory bodies and internal project teams, managing timelines, budgets and risk mitigation.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations such as NRSWA, HSG47 and the New Roads and Street Works Act, and support sustainability targets.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent professional qualification in engineering, project management or a related field, with a solid understanding of the engineering industry.
• Proven experience in the UK utility market, including utility procurement, loading calculations, network reinforcement and design.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (NRSWA, HSG47, HAUC, New Roads and Street Works Act) and renewable‑technology considerations for utility connections.
