VAT Manager – Hybrid, Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking a VAT Manager to join a growing indirect tax team in the Midlands Southwest region. The role is hybrid, based in Birmingham, and offers the chance to lead high‑value VAT advisory engagements for corporate clients.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver multiple VAT advisory projects, acting as the primary client contact.
• Provide VAT support on corporate finance and restructuring transactions.
• Manage VAT registrations, compliance set‑up and ongoing administration.
• Prepare and support clients through HMRC enquiries, reviews and disclosures.
• Conduct VAT process and control reviews aligned with HMRC guidelines.
• Identify commercial opportunities and coordinate go‑to‑market activities.
• Lead projects from scoping to implementation and post‑delivery support.
• Oversee proposal preparation, fee discussions, budgeting and billing.
• Review technical work, manage workloads and mentor Assistant Managers and junior staff.
• Contribute to the development of Crowe’s technology capabilities and collaborate with wider tax teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in UK VAT.
• Strong technical knowledge across core VAT disciplines.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
• Experience supervising junior staff and reviewing technical work.
• Commercially focused with a client‑service mindset.
