Vetting Officer – Police Professional Standards

About the role
Join the West Midlands Police Professional Standards Department as a Vetting Officer. This temporary full‑time role is based in Digbeth, Birmingham and offers an hourly rate of £14.99. You will play a pivotal part in safeguarding the integrity of the police service by ensuring all personnel meet strict vetting standards.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive background checks using police databases and related systems.
- Review applicants' professional and private lives, including financial affairs, associations, and employment history.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks through informed vetting decisions.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external vetting units to manage intelligence on vulnerabilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation and GDPR.
Required profile
- Self‑motivated and methodical with a keen eye for detail.
- Effective communicator with strong customer‑service orientation.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Required skills
- Proficiency with police databases such as PNC/PND.
- Familiarity with WMP intelligence systems.
- General IT proficiency and experience using standard software packages.
