Weekend Chef – Private Boarding School (Surrey)

About the role

We are seeking a Weekend Chef to work Saturdays and Sundays at a family‑run private boarding school located in the Surrey Hills. The role involves preparing and serving fresh meals for up to 300 boarders using high‑quality, locally sourced ingredients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of main dishes and simple desserts for 40‑60 covers on regular weekends and up to 150 covers on event days.
• Operate a modern kitchen equipped with a full‑size wood‑burning pizza oven.
• Serve meals to students and staff, ensuring high standards of presentation and hygiene.
• Clean workstations, wash up and maintain kitchen cleanliness at the end of each service.
• Collaborate with the head chef and two catering assistants as part of a small team.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a busy catering or hospitality environment.
• Ability to work independently with initiative and self‑motivation.
• Flexibility to cover additional shifts and adapt to a variable weekend pattern.
• Valid UK right‑to‑work and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
• Own transport is essential due to the remote location.

Required skills

• Proficiency in preparing mains, sides and simple desserts.
• Experience using commercial kitchen equipment, including pizza ovens.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
