Welder – Glasgow (Onsite)

About the role

BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Welder to join its shipbuilding team in Glasgow. The role is full‑time, onsite and supports the construction of Type 26 frigates, with a variety of shift patterns including days, nights and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles in FCAW/MAG processes.
• Carry out self‑verification of all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE examination standards.
• Follow safe working practices at all times, adhering to SHE requirements and applying effective fume‑control measures.
• Operate automated welding systems and contribute to team‑based production of complex welding solutions.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Experience in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments.
• Ability to work the advertised shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
• Good understanding of SHE requirements and risk‑assessment principles.
