Welder – Glasgow, Onsite (Shift Allowance)

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Welder to join its shipbuilding team in Glasgow, working on the Type 26 frigate programme. The role is full‑time, onsite and includes a competitive salary of £40,016 plus a 33 % shift allowance.

Key responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles in FCAW/MAG processes.
• Carry out self‑verification of all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
• Maintain safe working practices, adhere to SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and a relevant mechanical qualification (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience in ceramic‑tile welding, flux‑cored and metal‑cored arc welding.
• Ability to weld carbon‑steel sections 4–15 mm thick and MIG aluminium welding.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments, preferably with exposure to automated welding systems.
