About the role
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced welder to join the team delivering Type 26 frigates at its Glasgow shipyard. The role is full‑time, onsite, and offers a competitive salary with shift allowances.
Key responsibilities
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
- Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles within FCAW/MAG processes.
- Carry out self‑verification of all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE examination standards.
- Follow safe working practices, adhere to SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.
Required profile
- Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, flux‑cored arc welding, metal‑cored arc welding and associated equipment.
- Proven ability to weld carbon‑steel materials in the 4–15 mm thickness range.
- Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems.
