Welder – £40,016 + Shift Allowance

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Welder to join the team delivering the Type 26 frigates in Glasgow. The role offers a salary of £40,016 plus a 33% shift allowance and operates on a rotating day, night and weekend shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles within FCAW/MAG processes.
• Self‑verify all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
• Maintain safe working practices, adhere to SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.

Required profile

• Hold a Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding and associated equipment.
• Ability to weld carbon‑steel materials 4–15 mm thick and meet visual/NDE examination standards.
• Strong understanding of SHE requirements and risk‑assessment principles.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems.
