About the role
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced welder to join the team delivering Type 26 frigates in Glasgow. The role involves working on‑site with a shift pattern that includes days, nights and weekends, offering a competitive salary and shift allowance.
Key responsibilities
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
- Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles within FCAW/MAG processes.
- Carry out self‑verification of welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
- Follow safe working practices, SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.
Required profile
- Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Experience in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems.
- Ability to work in teams of 6‑12 and adhere to risk‑assessment principles.

What we offer
- Salary £40,016 per annum plus a 33 % shift allowance where applicable.
- Shift patterns: Days Mon‑Thurs 07:00‑16:30, Nights Mon‑Thurs 20:30‑06:00, Weekends Fri‑Sun 07:00‑19:30.
- Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge naval shipbuilding projects.
- Full‑time permanent contract.
