Welder – Shipbuilding – £40k + Shift Allowance

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced welder to join the shipbuilding team responsible for the Type 26 frigates in Glasgow. The role is full‑time, on‑site and offers a base salary of £40,016 plus a 33 % shift allowance where applicable.

Key responsibilities

• Perform carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium welding using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles in FCAW/MAG processes.
• Carry out self‑verification and ensure compliance with visual and NDE examination standards.
• Follow safe working practices, SHE requirements and apply effective fume‑control measures.
• Collaborate within a team of 6‑12 welders to deliver complex welding solutions for naval vessels.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding and MIG aluminium welding.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments.
• Good understanding of SHE requirements and risk‑assessment principles.
