Welder – Shipbuilding (Shift Allowance)

About the role
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Welder to join the shipbuilding team delivering the Type 26 frigates. The role involves working on‑site in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun) on a full‑time shift pattern, with a competitive salary and shift allowance.
Key responsibilities
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
- Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles within FCAW/MAG processes.
- Carry out self‑verification of all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE examination standards.
- Maintain safe working practices, adhering to SHE requirements and applying effective fume‑control measures.
Required profile
- Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding and associated equipment.
- Proven ability to weld carbon‑steel 4–15 mm thickness and MIG aluminium welding.
- Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments, including use of automated welding systems.
- Strong understanding of SHE requirements and risk‑assessment principles.

What we offer
- Salary of £40,016 per year plus a 33 % shift allowance where applicable.
