Welder – Shipbuilding (Type 26 frigates)

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Welder to join the shipbuilding team delivering the Type 26 frigates. You will work onsite in Glasgow, applying a range of welding processes to produce high‑quality structural components for naval vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O.
• Produce butt and fillet welds, including ceramic‑tile work within FCAW/MAG processes.
• Self‑verify all welds to ensure compliance with visual and NDE standards.
• Maintain safe working practices, adhere to SHE requirements and implement effective fume‑control measures.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Experience in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding and associated equipment.
• Ability to weld carbon‑steel 4–15 mm thickness and MIG aluminium welding.
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing or similar environments.

• Salary £40,016 per year plus up to 33% shift allowance.
• Shift patterns: Days Mon‑Thurs 07:00‑16:30, Nights Mon‑Thurs 20:30‑06:00, Weekends Fri‑Sun 07:00‑19:30.
