Workshop Supervisor

About the role

The Workshop Supervisor will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Breedon Group’s vehicle workshop in Oban, ensuring that all maintenance, inspections and repairs are carried out safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. You will manage a team of technicians, allocate work, and support the reliability of the company’s fleet through effective planning and coaching.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of workshop technicians, allocating work to meet maintenance schedules and operational priorities.
• Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety policies and DVSA requirements.
• Oversee vehicle inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs to keep the fleet roadworthy and compliant.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and quality assurance to workshop staff.
• Conduct daily briefings and maintain clear communication across the team.
• Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults when required.
• Ensure preventative maintenance programmes are completed to minimise downtime.
• Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual testing and assist with roadside or site breakdowns.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service documentation and workshop administration.
• Monitor workshop performance, productivity and housekeeping, identifying continuous‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Proven experience in an HGV workshop environment; supervisory or team‑leader experience is desirable.
• Strong technical knowledge of HGV maintenance, diagnostics and repair techniques.
• Good understanding of DVSA regulations and vehicle compliance.
• IRTEC HGV Inspection Accreditation is desirable.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast‑paced setting.
• Proactive problem‑solving mindset.
