Year 1 Teacher – Primary School (Maternity Cover)

About the role

This is a long‑term maternity cover position for a Year 1 teacher in a two‑form entry infant school in Barking, South East England. The role starts in September 2026 and is delivered through an education recruitment agency.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for Year 1 pupils, covering the KS1 curriculum.
• Provide confident phonics instruction and support literacy development.
• Assess student progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
• Maintain a safe, nurturing classroom environment in line with Ofsted "Good" standards.
• Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to whole‑school initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching KS1, preferably in an infant school setting.
• Enhanced DBS (Child Only) clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Complete CV covering employment and education history.

Required skills

• Strong phonics delivery.
• Ability to plan and differentiate KS1 lessons.
