Year 1 Teaching Assistant – SEND Support (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 1 team on a maternity‑cover basis. You will work with a small class of 21 pupils transitioning from EYFS to Year 1, with a primary focus on two SEND children.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small‑group support for two SEND pupils to access the Year 1 curriculum.
• Implement focus strategies to keep the pupil with ASD engaged and on‑task.
• Deliver speech and language interventions for the pupil with developmental delays.
• Assist the class teacher with the smooth transition of 21 pupils from play‑based EYFS to structured Year 1 learning.
• Engage children during outdoor play and Forest School sessions, promoting nature‑based learning.
• Collaborate with the class teacher and SENDCo to monitor, track, and report pupil progress.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent Early Years/Childcare/SEND qualification.
• Proven experience supporting children moving from EYFS to Key Stage 1.
• Demonstrable experience with ASD focus strategies and Speech & Language (SaLT) needs.
• Warm, patient, proactive attitude and passion for inclusive education.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain a new one) is mandatory.

• Knowledge of early phonics delivery.
• Passion for outdoor, student‑led Forest School learning.
