Youth Engagement Mentor (Bury)

About the role

The Youth Engagement Mentor works directly with young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school, including those with SEND, SEMH challenges or complex barriers to learning. Based in Bury and surrounding areas, the role focuses on rebuilding stability, confidence and a pathway back to education, college or vocational training through one‑to‑one, trauma‑informed support.

Key responsibilities

• Meet young people where they are – sometimes at their front door – to build trust and deliver 1:1 sessions that develop confidence, emotional regulation and self‑esteem, providing a calm, trauma‑informed presence during moments of crisis.
• Design and facilitate low‑pressure, interest‑based activities that reignite a love of learning, and accompany students to interviews or placements to reduce anxiety while teaching practical life skills such as budgeting and navigating public transport.
• Act as the “voice of the child” in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS, and support parents in creating a home environment that encourages regular attendance and personal growth.
