Youth Engagement Mentor (Part‑time, Flexible) – Edinburgh

About the role
As a Youth Engagement Mentor you will work one‑on‑one with young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school. The role is focused on re‑engaging them with learning, building confidence and supporting their transition to stable education or vocational pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Meet students in their environment to build trust and provide trauma‑informed emotional support.
- Deliver low‑pressure, interest‑based activities that rekindle a love of learning.
- Accompany students to interviews, placements and teach practical life skills such as budgeting and using public transport.
- Represent the young person in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS.
- Support parents in creating a home setting that encourages attendance and growth.
Required profile
- Resilience, empathy and a genuine desire to change young lives.
- Experience working with young people facing SEND, SEMH or complex barriers.
- Ability to work flexibly across Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
Required skills

- Flexible, student‑centred contract (part‑time, temporary).
- Hourly rate of £25‑£30.
