About the role
We are seeking a Youth Mentor to work with young people in St. Helens and surrounding areas who are persistently absent or excluded from school. The role focuses on rebuilding stability, developing skills and advocating for each learner, helping them move from isolation back into education, training or employment pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships by meeting young people in their own environment and delivering one‑to‑one sessions that support confidence, emotional regulation and self‑esteem.
- Design and run low‑pressure, interest‑based activities that reignite a love of learning and accompany students to interviews, placements or vocational settings to reduce anxiety.
- Represent the young person in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS, and work with parents to create a supportive home environment that encourages attendance.
Required profile
- Resilience and a compassionate attitude to support vulnerable youth.
- Ability to work flexibly, often outside standard office hours, and travel within St. Helens and surrounding areas.
