Youth Offending Service Officer – Staffordshire

About the role
The Youth Offending Service Officer will join the Staffordshire Youth Offending Service (SYOS) in Newcastle-under-Lyme, delivering statutory and non‑statutory interventions for children and young people. This contract role works within the Early Help & Specialist Safeguarding Delivery Service, reporting through the SYOS management structure.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a full Youth Justice caseload, prioritising work according to the level of need of each child and the wider community.
- Plan, deliver and monitor activities for individual children, young people and families to achieve assessed outcomes.
- Work directly with children and young people referred to SYOS, using a range of intervention strategies to prevent re‑offending.
- Regularly review progress against agreed aims, update individual plans and incorporate feedback from children, parents or carers.
- Act as Court Officer, Duty Officer and Appropriate Adult where required.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of Restorative Justice activities, ensuring compliance with service requirements.
- Maintain accurate records in line with Directorate policies and procedures.
- Participate in supervision with the SYOS Operations Manager and raise significant issues promptly.
- Provide high‑quality assessments and reports on children and families.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience working as a Youth Offending Service Officer or in a comparable youth justice role.
- Strong knowledge of Youth Justice policies, national standards and relevant legislation.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience working directly with children, young people, families and multi‑agency partners.
- Understanding of restorative justice principles and court processes.
