Youth Offending Service Practitioner

About the role

Staffordshire Youth Justice Service (SYJS) is recruiting two full‑time Youth Offending Service Practitioners based in the South Hub at the Lichfield office. The role supports children aged 10‑18 who are subject to out‑of‑court disposals or community‑based sentences.

Key responsibilities

• Support and manage children subject to out‑of‑court disposal and community‑based sentences.
• Form positive working relationships with complex and often neurodiverse children.
• Act as duty officer and appropriate adult, providing cover at police stations and secure estates.
• Complete, maintain and review records on SYJS recording systems.
• Deliver high‑quality assessments (Asset Plus and PDAT) and write reports for Referral Order panels and court options.
• Engage in regular supervision with the Senior Practitioner.
• Contribute to the development of Child First and trauma‑informed practice.

Required profile

• Experience working with children and families and ability to develop positive relationships.
• Knowledge of legislation applicable to the Youth Justice sector.
• Understanding of the effect of trauma in childhood and its impact on development.
• Proven track record of using assessment, planning and review processes.
• Ability to write and maintain accurate records and analytical assessments.
• Flexible approach, including evening and occasional weekend work.
• Patience, understanding and resilience.
