Youth Support Worker – Specialist SEMH School (Wantage)

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate Youth Support Worker to join a specialist school in Wantage, supporting pupils aged 5‑11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role focuses on helping children regulate emotions, develop positive behaviours and make academic progress within a restorative‑practice environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students to improve emotional regulation and behaviour.
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Implement restorative practices and de‑escalation techniques.
- Monitor and record student progress, reporting to senior staff.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic support.
Required profile
- Patient, kind and empathetic attitude towards children with SEMH challenges.
- Positive mindset and passion for helping young people.
- Willingness to adapt to individual needs of each child.
- Previous experience with children, especially those with SEMH or behavioural needs, is desirable but not essential.
