1:1 Autism Support Assistant – City of Westminster

About the role

This full‑time, term‑time only position supports a non‑verbal autistic pupil in a Catholic secondary school in Westminster. The role starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to develop a career in SEND or related professional pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Support a non‑verbal autistic pupil on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day.
• Provide regular movement breaks and monitor the pupil’s activity to ensure safety.
• Assist with communication using PECS, Makaton or other agreed strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEN staff to implement individual education plans.

Required profile

• Patient, resilient and physically active, able to stay alert during movement breaks.
• Reliable, humble and comfortable working closely with a single pupil.
• Interest in a long‑term career in SEND, SEN or related professional pathways.

Required skills

• Experience with autism, especially non‑verbal pupils.
• Knowledge of PECS and Makaton communication systems.
• Ability to support behaviour management and provide movement‑based interventions.
