1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Primary School (Islington)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work with a Key Stage 1 pupil with autism in a primary school in Islington. The role involves providing one‑to‑one support throughout the school day, ensuring the child can access the curriculum in a safe and structured environment. You will collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver consistent strategies that promote academic progress, emotional regulation and social development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one assistance to the designated pupil during all lessons and break times.
• Implement and reinforce behaviour and learning strategies agreed with the teacher and SENCO.
• Monitor the pupil’s emotional state and intervene promptly to maintain safety and wellbeing.
• Support the child in transitioning between activities and returning to learning after dysregulation.
• Maintain accurate records of the pupil’s progress and incidents.

Required profile

• Patience, empathy and resilience when working with a child who may become dysregulated.
• Ability to stay calm, set clear boundaries and use positive reinforcement.
• Physical stamina to stay active and vigilant throughout the day.
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures and willingness to follow school policies.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of autism support strategies.
• Familiarity with classroom management techniques.
