1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Southwark

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a primary‑school pupil with specific learning difficulties in Southwark. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning experiences and ensure the student feels safe and encouraged throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one SEN support, adapting teaching materials and strategies to the pupil’s needs.
• Assist in implementing and monitoring the individual education plan (IEP).
• Offer emotional support and encourage a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with the teaching team to plan and deliver effective lessons.
• Observe, record, and report progress or concerns to relevant staff.
• Supervise the student during lunch and break times to ensure safety.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar SEN support role, preferably in a school setting.
• Teaching Assistant qualification (advantageous but not essential).
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
• Excellent organisational abilities and the capacity to prioritise tasks.
• Flexibility and problem‑solving aptitude.
