1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (Year 6)

About the role

This full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term position provides one‑to‑one support for a Year 6 pupil with special educational needs (SEND) in a primary school in Nelson. You will work under the teacher’s supervision, helping the child engage with learning activities and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalised 1:1 assistance during classroom lessons and learning tasks.
• Monitor the pupil’s progress and report feedback to the class teacher.
• Build supportive relationships with the pupil, parents and carers.
• Provide intimate/personal care, moving and handling, and support for medical or complex needs when required.
• Assist the pupil in using ICT tools for educational purposes.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 2 or higher (or equivalent) relevant to the role.
• Level 2 qualification in English/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy.
• Experience working with children of primary‑school age in a classroom or care setting.
• Knowledge of Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND and managing challenging behaviour.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
• Current DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
• Ability to complete face‑to‑face registration and provide recent references.
