1:1 Specialist Tutor for Functional Skills Maths & English

About the role

We are looking for an empathetic, resilient Specialist Tutor to deliver one‑to‑one Functional Skills Maths and English tuition to a Year 11 student in a calm, non‑traditional setting at an equestrian centre in East Boldon.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engaging, personalised 1:1 tuition focused on lower attainment levels and Functional Skills.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the student’s social, emotional and sensory needs.
• Maintain clear expectations, consistency and a safe learning environment.
• Offer reliable, long‑term support to build a positive working relationship.

Required profile

• Proven experience working one‑to‑one with secondary‑age learners who have SEMH, communication or sensory differences.
• Strong understanding of techniques for managing emotional dysregulation and anxiety in learning settings.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills or differentiated English and Maths content.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Local to, or able to commute to, East Boldon.
