1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School Support

About the role

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs in a mainstream primary school in Erdington, Birmingham. The role involves working closely with the child throughout the school day to help them access the curriculum, develop social skills and reach their full potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs.
• Assist the child in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
• Support the development of social, emotional, and communication skills.
• Implement strategies and interventions as directed by the class teacher and SENCO.
• Record and report on the pupil’s progress and wellbeing.
• Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Attend meetings and training as required.

Required profile

• Experience working with children in a school, childcare or similar setting.
• Patient, nurturing and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Confidence in supporting children with additional needs.
• Proactive and flexible attitude.
• Relevant childcare, teaching assistant or educational qualifications preferred.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths desirable.
• Safeguarding training advantageous.
