1:1 Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Royton)

About the role

This permanent position supports a KS3/KS4 pupil who is re‑integrating into mainstream education after attending a Pupil Referral Unit. Working closely with the learner, you will help them achieve academic progress while developing emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one academic support tailored to the pupil’s curriculum needs.
• Implement de‑escalation and behaviour‑management strategies in line with Team Teach training.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, pastoral staff and the SENCO to monitor progress and adjust support plans.
• Promote independence and confidence through structured activities and regular feedback.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in a school or educational setting.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students from a Pupil Referral Unit.
• Team Teach training completed and ability to use behaviour‑management techniques confidently.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach to working with young people displaying challenging behaviour.
