1:1 Tutor for Looked After Children (South Tyneside)

About the role

We are seeking compassionate 1:1 Tutors to support Looked After Children (LAC) across the South Tyneside area. The role runs from September for the full academic year, offering flexible daily hours between 2 and 6.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalised tuition sessions in English and Maths, either face‑to‑face or online.
• Design and adapt lesson plans to meet individual needs, including EHCP and PEP targets.
• Motivate and build confidence in learners, encouraging engagement with education.
• Collaborate with Virtual Schools, carers, social workers and education settings to ensure coordinated support.
• Monitor progress, record outcomes and contribute to ongoing educational planning.

Required profile

• Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting vulnerable young people, especially those in care or with SEMH needs.
• Understanding of challenges faced by children in the care system.
• Patience, reliability and a strong commitment to helping young people succeed.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across South Tyneside.
• A teaching qualification (QTS or QTLS) is advantageous but not essential.
