12‑Month Environmental Test Engineering Placement

About the role

This 12‑month placement gives you hands‑on experience in environmental test engineering within Airbus Defence and Space’s Stevenage facility. You will work on vibration and thermal‑vacuum testing of space hardware, supporting both internal programmes and commercial projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support the full lifecycle of environmental tests, from setup and instrumentation to execution and data collection.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and adapt procedures under pressure to keep tests on schedule.
• Develop an understanding of vibration profiles and thermal‑vacuum chamber physics.
• Assist during peak periods and multi‑customer setups, ensuring safe and robust shift operations.

Required profile

• Currently studying Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related physical‑science degree.
• Proactive, inquisitive and resilient mindset, able to stay calm when technical challenges arise.
• Strong interest in hands‑on engineering and how hardware survives launch and space environments.
• Willingness to work in a dynamic, on‑the‑ground test environment with shifting priorities.

Required skills

• Vibration testing (small and large shakers).
• Thermal‑vacuum (TVAC) testing.
• Test instrumentation and data collection.
• Troubleshooting of test equipment under pressure.
