1st Line Support Engineer

About the role

This temporary 6‑month rolling contract offers a hands‑on entry point into WAN network support for a global customer. Working Monday‑Friday, 9‑5 on‑site at the Birmingham office, you will join a 24/7 operations team and receive development support to progress your networking career.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for WAN‑related incidents and alerts.
• Perform triage, basic configuration and first‑line troubleshooting.
• Monitor and maintain global network infrastructure.
• Review network topology diagrams and conduct impact assessments.
• Provide detailed feedback to customers and support the shift team.
• Manage PKI certificate renewals.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and an organised approach.
• Clear communication skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, process‑oriented environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.

Required skills

• WAN networking concepts.
• Routers and switches.
• Network topology diagram interpretation.
• PKI certificate management.
• CCNA certification (or working towards it).
• ITIL fundamentals.
