999 Call Handler – Emergency Medical Dispatcher (Bristol)

About the role

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) of the South Western Ambulance Service is looking for compassionate individuals to join the 999 Call Handler team in Bristol. As the first point of contact for callers experiencing medical emergencies, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time.

Key responsibilities

• Answer 999 calls and assess the urgency of each situation.
• Record accurate patient information and incident details on the dispatch system.
• Provide appropriate advice, reassurance, or instructions to callers.
• Prioritise and dispatch ambulance resources based on clinical protocols.
• Work shifts covering 24/7 operations, including weekends and holidays.

• Strong communication and listening skills, especially under pressure.
• Ability to remain calm and make quick, informed decisions.
