Accountant – 12 month contract (potential permanent)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join a successful business within an international group. This 12‑month contract role, based in Wirral, offers a hands‑on mix of payroll management and financial accounting responsibilities, with the potential to become permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end payroll processing, including pension administration and compliance.
• Oversee invoice finance, monitor cash flow and process supplier payments.
• Prepare quarterly management accounts and monthly management information, including cash‑flow forecasts and P&L reports.
• Produce year‑end statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Complete month‑end journals, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations and submit VAT returns.
• Resolve accounts receivable and payable queries and support budgeting and financial planning.
• Identify and implement improvements to finance processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a senior finance role such as Financial Accountant, Payroll Manager or Finance Manager.
• Extensive payroll experience with pension administration and compliance.
• Proven ability to prepare management accounts and month‑end reporting.
• Strong reconciliation skills and solid understanding of financial controls.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and communication abilities.
