Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Accountant to join our growing practice in Spennymoor. You will manage a portfolio of clients, delivering a full range of accounting and tax services while working alongside experienced professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Prepare and submit Corporate Tax (CT600) and Personal Tax (Self‑Assessment) returns.
• Prepare and file VAT returns, ensuring compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD).
• Assist clients with MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) transitions and ongoing submissions.
• Perform monthly/quarterly bookkeeping, maintaining accurate digital ledgers.
• Act as a trusted point of contact, advising clients on software use and day‑to‑day accounting queries.

Required profile

• Recent, proven experience working within a UK accountancy practice.
• Tech‑savvy and comfortable using cloud‑based accounting tools.
• Highly organised with a proactive work ethic.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with TaxCalc.
• Proficiency in Xero.
• Experience using QuickBooks.
• Familiarity with FreeAgent.
