Accounts Assistant – Finance Support

About the role

We are seeking an Accounts Assistant to join a growing finance team in Darlington. The role offers hands‑on experience across a range of accounting activities and the chance to develop your career within a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the production of timely and accurate management information.
• Reconcile daily banking transactions and maintain weekly cash records.
• Investigate and report variances or discrepancies.
• Process purchase invoices and manage supplier account administration.
• Assist with VAT returns and compliance activities.
• Help with balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Provide support to both sales and purchase ledger functions as required.
• Collaborate with the wider finance team to ensure smooth financial operations.

Required profile

• AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent finance experience.
• Previous experience in an accounts or finance environment.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Organised, proactive and eager to learn.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software.
