Accounts Assistant with progression

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established business in Watford to hire an Accounts Assistant who will work closely with the Finance Director. This role offers a clear pathway to develop finance expertise across the whole function and progress to a more senior position over time.

Key responsibilities

• Process sales invoices and manage credit control queries.
• Maintain purchase ledger and support month‑end close activities.
• Perform bank reconciliations and post journals, including pre‑payments and accruals.
• Assist with payroll processing and liaise with external payroll providers.
• Support budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting and financial reporting.
• Help prepare for audits and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
• Collaborate with other departments to build effective working relationships.

Required profile

• Early‑career finance professional or someone with a few years’ experience looking for broader responsibility.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational abilities.
• Comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
• Good communication skills, especially when dealing with non‑finance teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using accounting software or systems.
