Accounts Payable Assistant – Purchase Ledger

About the role

We are seeking an Accounts Payable Assistant to join our finance team in Birkenhead. You will work closely with the Financial Controller, handling purchase ledger duties for a well‑established construction business. This permanent, onsite role offers a supportive environment and the chance to develop a broad range of finance skills.

Key responsibilities

• Process high volumes of purchase invoices accurately and efficiently
• Match, batch and code invoices
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve queries
• Assist with payment runs and manage supplier accounts
• Support the Financial Controller with day‑to‑day finance tasks
• Perform credit‑card reconciliations
• Maintain accurate financial records in line with company procedures
• Provide ad‑hoc support across the finance function as required

Required profile

• Previous purchase ledger experience
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Good communication abilities and relationship‑building with suppliers and colleagues
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team
• Experience in the construction sector is advantageous but not essential
