Accounts Senior

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Accounts Senior to join a well‑established accountancy practice in Essex. You will work with a varied client portfolio, taking ownership of accounts preparation, compliance assignments and client relationships in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, charities and group structures.
• Complete and review VAT returns, bookkeeping assignments and management accounts.
• Deliver assignments accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
• Review work, resolve queries and produce high‑quality final files.
• Support outsourced accounting processes and handle related queries.
• Supervise junior team members, providing guidance and feedback.
• Keep managers and senior stakeholders updated on client matters, risks and opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records, including time recording and workflow updates.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a client‑facing accounts role.
• AAT qualified, part‑qualified or qualified by experience (QBE).
• Strong experience preparing accounts for a range of business types.
• Good understanding of VAT, bookkeeping and management accounts processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with clients and colleagues.
• Good IT skills and adaptability to different systems.
• Experience supervising or supporting junior colleagues is advantageous.
