Accounts Senior

About the role

We are seeking an Accounts Senior to join a well‑established accountancy practice in Exeter. The role is ideal for a part‑qualified accountant actively studying ACA, ACCA or AAT who wants to develop technical skills within a supportive, office‑based team. You will work alongside experienced accountants and managers, contributing to a varied portfolio of clients across multiple industries.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Produce management accounts where required.
• Carry out bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and VAT return preparation and submission.
• Assist with corporation tax and personal tax compliance.
• Support senior team members with year‑end accounts preparation.
• Maintain client records and ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
• Handle day‑to‑day client queries, maintain strong professional relationships and liaise directly with clients for information.
• Work to deadlines while ensuring a high level of accuracy.

Required profile

• 2–3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
• Part‑qualified and actively studying towards ACA, ACCA or AAT.
• Experience preparing accounts and VAT returns.
• Confidence communicating directly with clients.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Positive attitude and ambition to progress within an accountancy practice.

Required skills

• Cloud accounting software: Xero, Sage, QuickBooks.
• Familiarity with CCH (desirable).
