Accounts Technician – Bookkeeper & Practice Accountant

About the role

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of a Top 50 accountancy practice in Axminster for an experienced Accounts Technician. The role offers the chance to work with a varied client portfolio, supporting partners and managers while developing your bookkeeping and tax expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Maintain bookkeeping for a diverse range of clients.
• Prepare simple statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
• Compile personal and corporate tax computations and returns.
• Submit required documents to HMRC and Companies House.
• Support partners and managers with client queries and administrative tasks.
• Visit client premises when required.

Required profile

• AAT qualified or Qualified by Experience (QBE); ACA or ACCA part‑qualified candidates also considered.
• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Strong bookkeeping and VAT return experience.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts.
• Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Effective communication and client relationship abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Xero.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
