About the role

The Acute Services Team Leader (Highly Specialised Orthoptist) will lead the Orthoptic Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary, overseeing specialist Stroke and Visual Field services while supporting paediatric, general ophthalmology and maxillofacial pathways. This part‑time, permanent position offers an opportunity to shape service development and mentor junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and management for orthoptic patients and extended‑role clinics.
• Lead service development for Stroke and Visual Field pathways.
• Supervise and line‑manage Band 5 Orthoptists, ensuring high standards of care.
• Contribute to teaching, audit and research activities across the Trust.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated patient care.

Required profile

• Registered Orthoptist with extensive clinical experience.
• Demonstrated leadership or line‑management experience.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous service improvement.
• Ability to work autonomously and make accountable clinical decisions.
