Advanced Practitioner – Families First Service (6‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The Families First Service at Southend City Council is seeking an Advanced Practitioner on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. You will work directly with vulnerable children and their families, applying a relational, systemic and decisive practice model to deliver child‑centred outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive child protection cases, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
• Provide high‑quality professional casework and use Restorative Practice to support families.
• Mentor and supervise less experienced practitioners, fostering their development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with registration (e.g., SWE) and experience in child welfare.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and practice methods.
• Ability to work independently, make decisive judgments and handle high‑pressure situations.
