Advanced Practitioner – Families First Service

About the role

Southend City Council’s Families First Service is seeking a full‑time Advanced Practitioner to deliver child‑centred support to vulnerable children and their families. You will work within a relational, systemic and decisive practice model, using Restorative Practice to achieve lasting outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive child protection cases, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
• Provide high‑quality professional casework, coordinating with families, schools and partner agencies.
• Mentor and support less experienced practitioners, fostering their development.
• Lead initiatives within the team, identifying areas for improvement and driving change.
• Participate in regular restorative and professional supervision, maintaining Social Work England registration.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with experience in child and family services.
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex cases and make decisive interventions.
• Strong relational skills and a commitment to child‑centred practice.
• Registered with Social Work England (or equivalent).

Required skills

• Restorative Practice methodology.
• Case management and multi‑agency collaboration.
• In‑depth knowledge of child protection legislation and regulations.
