Advanced Practitioner – Fostering

About the role

We are seeking an Advanced Practitioner to lead our fostering service within North Yorkshire Council. The role combines supervisory responsibility with hands‑on assessment work, ensuring high‑quality outcomes for children, young people and kinship carers.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and support social workers on a daily basis to deliver effective fostering services.
• Model and facilitate reflective practice and professional development.
• Oversee and sign‑off fostering assessments, including complex cases.
• Ensure all assessments are based on accurate information and robust analysis.
• Develop clear intervention plans that protect and promote the development of children and young people.
• Manage risk and guide staff in risk‑management processes.
• Lead, mentor and challenge colleagues to make evidence‑based decisions.
• Assist the team manager in improving outcomes for children and families.
• Provide leadership and advice on complex cases, driving the Signs‑of‑Safety approach.

Required profile

• Proven management experience within social work or fostering.
• Experience signing off assessment work and applying safeguarding standards.
• Strong knowledge of fostering regulations and standards.
• Ability to supervise, mentor and develop professional staff.
• Competence in risk management and evidence‑based decision making.
