Aircraft Refueller/Handler – Permanent

About the role

The Aircraft Refueller/Handler ensures that the helicopter fleet at RAF Shawbury is correctly positioned and fuelled to support flight operations and base maintenance. The role involves safe handling of fuel, compliance with strict regulations, and coordination with flight crews.

Key responsibilities

• Handle and refuel aircraft in line with JIG, IATA, airport, health & safety, HM Customs and ASIG regulations, including rotors‑running refuels.
• Supply fuel using tanker vehicles, verify correct quantities, and complete quality‑control checks on vehicles.
• Maintain health and safety standards at all times, following internal policies and security requirements.
• Identify and report any vehicle defects, incidents, or safety concerns promptly.

Required profile

• Previous aircraft refuelling and handling experience.
• Strong health‑and‑safety awareness, especially in hazardous‑materials environments.
• Experience supporting busy flight operations, preferably with helicopters.
• Desirable: helicopter refuelling experience with rotors‑running and knowledge of UK military aviation.

Required skills

• Valid LGV C+E driving licence with ADR Class 3 tanker certification.
• DQC CPC (Driver Qualification Card).
• Digital Tachograph Driver Card (desirable).
